The Most Beautiful College Campuses In America

Notre Dame
February 18th, 2015

There are a lot of beautiful college campuses out there. Ranging from the beautiful beaches of Hawaii to the mountains of Colorado, there’s no shortage of great scenery available to college students.

But some take the cake as far as the best views. Which ones? Here are our top picks.

University of Virginia

Once called “the proudest achievement of American architecture in the last 200 years,” what makes UVA stand out is its beautiful buildings. Found in Charlottesville, VA, the University of Virginia now spans almost 1,700 acres. And while many of its buildings are worth a look, the most notable is the Palladian-style Rotunda. When you see it, you’ll feel like you just stepped into a building in ancient Rome.

University of Chicago

You wouldn’t think that a college in a major city would be very beautiful, right? But you’d be surprised at the views at the University of Chicago. Many of the buildings have a gothic look to them, making you feel like you stepped backwards in time a few centuries. And if looking at ancient-looking buildings isn’t your thing, you can always walk in the university’s gardens or hang out by the pond with its ducks and fish.

The University of Notre Dame

There are a few things that stand out at Notre Dame. For one thing, there are a lot of trees on campus! You don’t necessarily feel like you’re walking through a forest, but you definitely are a little closer to nature than you’d be in most urban schools. Another great thing about this school is the bell tower on campus and its stained glass windows. Finally, the golden dome on Notre Dame’s main building is a sight to see.

The University of Hawaii, Monoa

What’s there not to like about Hawaii? The weather is beautiful all the time. You have some of the best beaches in the world. And even when you aren’t on the water, you’re able to enjoy the beautiful buildings that this campus boasts. Granted, you’re probably more likely to enjoy a beautiful beach view than stare at a building all weekend, but to each his own!

Colgate University

Found in Hamilton Village, New York, Colgate University was actually named as the most beautiful college in America in 2010. And when you see pictures of it, you’ll quickly understand why! You have a beautiful lake visible from a good portion of campus. The campus is fairly hilly, so you’re able to both lots of buildings and grass at the same time. Finally, the architecture makes you feel like you’re in another, more sophisticated part of the world!

Duke University

Another school with beautiful Gothic architecture, Duke is a great place to go if you want to step into a different century. Found in Durham, North Carolina, Duke is a popular school for students looking for a place with great academics, mild weather and beautiful views.

Unfortunately we couldn’t cover every beautiful college out there. To do so would take a LOT of space- more than you‘re looking to read! But this gives you an idea of some of the most beautiful schools in the U.S.
